College Overview
Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is one of India’s leading private deemed universities, founded in 1984 by G. Viswanathan and headquartered in Vellore. From a single engineering college, it has expanded into a multi-campus institution with campuses in Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati. The Vellore campus is known for its modern infrastructure, research facilities, sports complexes, and extensive hostel accommodations. VIT is consistently ranked among India’s top engineering institutions and is recognized for its strong accreditations and academic quality. Its flagship B.Tech programme offers a wide range of specializations, including Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Biotechnology, and Information Technology. Admission to B.Tech programmes is mainly through the VITEEE entrance examination. Beyond engineering, VIT offers postgraduate and doctoral programmes in technology, management, and research. The university provides MCA, M.Tech, MBA, Ph.D., and BCA programmes through its various schools, including the VIT Business School. Admissions are based on entrance examinations such as VITMEE, GATE, CAT, XAT, NMAT, and MAT, depending on the programme. A major attraction of VIT is its merit-based scholarship system and strong placement record. Scholarships provide tuition fee waivers ranging from 25% to 100% based on academic performance and entrance exam rankings. The university also maintains excellent industry connections, leading to strong placement outcomes, especially in Computer Science, while major events such as Gravitas and Riviera contribute to a vibrant campus life.
