Mahindra University (MU) is a private university at Bahadurpally, Jeedimetla, Hyderabad, set up by Mahindra Educational Institutions (MEI), the not-for-profit corporate social responsibility arm of the Mahindra Group. It was created under a Telangana government ordinance and Act, and its founding Chancellor is Mr Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group. Its roots lie in Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC), established in Hyderabad in August 2014 through a collaboration between MEI, Ecole Centrale Paris (now CentraleSupelec) in France and JNTU Hyderabad to offer undergraduate engineering programmes. The Indo-French partnership and links with Tech Mahindra made MEC a distinctive name in technical education before the university was founded. Mahindra University was set up for educating future citizens for and of a better world. Its purpose is to extend beyond engineering into diverse streams of education, and it now operates several schools, including the Ecole Centrale School of Engineering, a School of Management, a School of Law, the Indira Mahindra School of Education, and schools covering media, hospitality, liberal arts and performing arts. The university positions itself as research-oriented, interdisciplinary and globally connected, with international partnerships including CentraleSupelec in France. Student life centres on a large green campus in north Hyderabad with hostels, sports and academic facilities. Mahindra Group links are intended to connect students with industry, while merit scholarships and entrance-test routes widen access to its undergraduate programmes. Tech Mahindra describes the institutions as offering a comprehensive education that equips young people for the twenty-first century, with modern campuses designed for a conducive learning environment.
