Uttaranchal University was established in 2013 under the Uttaranchal University Act, 2012 (Uttarakhand Act No. 11 of 2013) as a private university. Founded by the Sushila Devi Centre for Professional Studies & Research, it is recognised by the UGC under Sections 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The university has earned an A+ Grade accreditation from NAAC, placing it among the top 5% of higher education institutions in India. Its motto, “पदं हि सर्वत्र गुणैर्निधीयते” (Good qualities put their footprints everywhere), reflects its commitment to quality education and holistic development. The university offers multidisciplinary undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes through its academic schools in Law, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Applied and Life Sciences, Liberal Arts and Humanities, Computing Sciences, Hotel and Hospitality Management, Health Sciences, Nursing, and Ayurveda. Its programmes align with NEP 2020 and focus on experiential learning, industry relevance, research, and innovation. The university's alumni network includes more than 73 judges serving at state, national, and international levels. Research and innovation are central to the university's mission, with focus areas including Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Renewable Energy, and various engineering disciplines. It also supports research in law, psychology, biodiversity, gender equality, finance, international relations, and management. Its Intellectual Property Facilitation Centre, supported by the Ministry of MSME, and its association with ACIC promote entrepreneurship and innovation. Uttaranchal University has gained national and international recognition through the WURI Rankings, THE Impact Rankings, QS World University Rankings: Asia, QS Sustainability Rankings, and THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings. In 2024, it ranked fifth nationally and 25th internationally under THE Impact Rankings for UNSDG Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy). Its School of Pharmacy secured 75th rank in NIRF 2025. The university has also received the Sustainability Award from the International Council of Circular Economy and is part of the SDSN South Asia Network, highlighting its commitment to sustainable development and impactful research.
